Magic Lands (2019 - 2020).
Documenting the masked ritual La Vijanera, in Cantabria, North of Spain.
Dating pre-romanic times, it is the biggest celebration of this kind in Europe, involving approximatively 70 characters each with his own costume and symbolism. Prohibited by the Church and the totalitarian regime in 1935 it was revived in 1982 by a group of young people from the area
The project follows the growth and continuity of this celebration among the young generation of participants reflecting on the fragility of culture and folklore in the face of politics, religion, globalisation and other modern factors.
